TikTok has permanently removed accounts linked to Russian state media, citing their involvement in “covert influence operations.”

The ban comes as the platform intensifies efforts to combat disinformation ahead of the U.S. presidential elections in November, according to Sky News.

The banned accounts are associated with the RT media group, which includes outlets such as RIA Novosti, Sputnik, and TV-Novosti—the parent company of Russia Today (RT).

While these accounts were previously restricted in the UK and EU, with their content flagged as state-controlled media, TikTok has now implemented a full ban.

TikTok’s decision is part of a wider trend among tech giants to limit Russian media’s reach.

Recently, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, also blocked RT and other Russian state media outlets, citing concerns over potential interference in global affairs.
