In recent years, more survivors of sexual abuse have come forward to speak about their experiences.
Many have fought hard to be heard. Some became symbols of courage and change.
One of them was Virginia Giuffre, a woman who stood up against one of the most powerful sex trafficking networks the world has ever seen.
Virginia Giuffre has died by suicide at her farm in Western Australia, according to Ziare. She was 40 years old.

Her death came after a difficult period in her life. She had been involved in a serious car crash that doctors said left her with only a few days to live.
On top of that, she was dealing with family issues, including a recent domestic dispute with her husband.
Giuffre was known as one of the most outspoken victims of Jeffrey Epstein.
She accused Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell of trafficking her as a teenager.
She said they passed her around to powerful men and treated her like she was a product to be used.
One of the men she accused was Prince Andrew. She said he sexually assaulted her three times when she was just 17.
Prince Andrew denied the claims. In 2022, he reached an out-of-court settlement with her.
In the days before her death, Giuffre posted disturbing messages on social media.
Her family confirmed her passing in a heartfelt message. They wrote that her life was shaped by pain and trauma.
But they also called her a fighter. They said she had become a voice for other survivors and gave strength to many.
An old post from 2019 is being shared again. In it, she said she was not suicidal.
She wrote it after someone warned that she might be silenced. “I am not suicidal in any way,” she said. “If anything happens to me, do not let it be covered up.”
Virginia Giuffre leaves behind her husband and three children.
