NBA Mourns the Loss of Earl Cureton at Age 66

The NBA community is in mourning following the death of basketball legend Earl “The Twirl” Cureton, who passed away on Sunday morning. His former team, the Detroit Pistons, confirmed the news, as reported by ESPN.

Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gore expressed his sorrow, remembering Cureton as one of the most generous and positive individuals he had known. The cause of Cureton’s death has not been disclosed, with his passing described as “sudden” and “unexpected.”

Cureton’s illustrious twelve-year NBA career included winning two championships with the Philadelphia 76’ers and the Houston Rockets. Until his passing, he served as an ambassador for the Detroit Pistons, a team he also played for during his active career.

“He was a loving father devoted to his family. I had the great honor of being his friend. He was a champion as a player and a key ambassador for our community. We are devastated by this loss,” Gore elaborated.

Over the course of his NBA career, Cureton played 674 games, averaging 5.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1 assist per game. His contribution to the sport and his community will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
