On a wet and dreary day in Brazil, Mayane Rodrigues witnessed something beautiful from her apartment window.
From a distance, Rodrigues saw a young girl stop on the rainy sidewalk while walking home from school. She put down her umbrella, took off her backpack, and then took off her jacket.
Rodrigues then noticed a soaking wet stray puppy at the girl's feet — and she realized that all her actions were for him.
The Rescue
Rodrigues watched as the girl took the dog in her arms and continued on her way. To her, she was like an angel.
"It all happened so fast. It was very emotional," Rodrigues told The Dodo. "I sent the video to a friend who shared it in a neighborhood group, and then I found out who the angel was."
Her name is Cibely Stiegelmair. She is 13 years old. And on that day, she saved a life.
A Heartwarming Act
"I was scared when she arrived with the puppy because she was very sweaty and soaked from the rain," Rejane Stiegelmair, Cibely's mother, told The Dodo. "There was blood on her shirt. I thought she was injured, but she told me that she had found the injured puppy."
Fortunately, the puppy was not too badly injured. A little love and care was enough to heal him.
When she saw the puppy there alone, Cibely knew she had to help him.
"Cibely has a very good heart. She has a lot of compassion for stray dogs," said Rejane. "If she could bring them all home, she would."
A Happy Ending
The dog, whom Cibely named Pretinha, was welcomed into the family home with open arms.
No one knows exactly how Pretinha ended up stranded on the sidewalk that day, but one thing is clear — thanks to Cibely, her future has never looked brighter.
"As parents, we are proud of Cibely and always have been," said her mother. "But now we are even more so!"
