Bowie, a four-year-old dachshund with a larger-than-life personality, recently captured the internet's heart when a video of his latest escapade went viral.
Barking Furiously
While Bowie may not be known for his sharp instincts, his protective nature was on full display when he mistook the shadow of a bird for a potential intruder.
In the now-viral clip shared by his owner, Trent Smith, Bowie can be seen standing near a backyard wall, barking furiously.
To his dismay, the “threat” turned out to be nothing more than the shadow of a crow perched on a power line overhead. Though the danger was imagined, Bowie's dedication to alerting his family is clear.
Not a Typical Dachshund
Smith, Bowie's owner, affectionately admitted that his beloved dachshund might not be the brightest pup, saying, "Bowie is many things—sweet, happy, a very good boy—but not so smart." Despite being four years old, Trent explains that Bowie still acts like a playful puppy and brings "endless joy" to his family.
Bowie shares his home with his littermate Rory, his "sister-aunt" Zora the pug, and his human family, who all adore him despite his goofy antics.
"He spends most of his time hopping around the backyard like a rabbit, chasing lizards, butterflies, and bird shadows," Smith told Newsweek.
Though dachshunds are often recognized for their intelligence, with organizations like the German Kennel Club describing the breed as quick-witted and determined, Bowie just sees the world a bit differently.
