In an unusual incident at a Waitrose supermarket in the UK, a customer returned a bag of salad due to the surprising presence of a live frog hidden within.
Species Unknown
The origin of the amphibian remains a mystery, but its unexpected appearance has certainly captured public attention.
According to Tag24 the incident unfolded when the shopper discovered the frog, which species still haven't been discovered, nestled among the fresh greens. The salad seemed very fresh even though it must have housed the little creature for a while.
After the customer brought the bag back to the store, the frog was subsequently transferred to a distribution center in Bracknell, England, before being handed over to a local animal rescue organization.
Safe and Thriving
Graham Martin from Berkshire Reptile Rescue took in the frog.
In a post on Facebook he expressed uncertainty about its origins but reassured the public that the creature was now safe and thriving.
“I have no idea where he comes from, but he’s happy where he is,” Martin stated.
The frog is currently residing in a cozy enclosure filled with soil and leaves, along with a small water dish. To ensure its comfort, the rescue team provided the frog with a few beetles to eat, and it appears to be enjoying its new life.
A spokesperson for the John Lewis Partnership, which owns Waitrose, offered an apology to the customer involved in the incident.
This incident is being described as extremely rare. “There is a stringent sorting and washing process in place that should have eliminated any frogs from the produce,” a spokesperson noted.
