Cooee, a dog living at the Dog’s Refuge Home in Shenton Park, Australia, has captured the attention of both staff and the public due to his surprising lineage.

Not a Dog at All

For years, Cooee was believed to be a mix of Australian Kelpie, but recent DNA tests have revealed that he is, in fact, a purebred dingo.

Staff member Jasmin Suter expressed her shock, stating, “We were stunned to find out that Cooee is actually 100% dingo.”

Dingos, while classified as dogs, have reverted to a wild state over thousands of years, making them unsuitable as pets.

This fact sheds light on why Cooee has faced challenges in finding a permanent home; his dingo-like behavior led to multiple adoptions and returns. As Suter explained, “He was adopted and then returned due to his typical dingo behavior.”

Now, the question arises: what will happen to Cooee?

Despite his domesticated nature, he cannot be released into the wild.

The goal of the refuge is to find him a home with experienced owners who understand his unique needs. Suter hopes for a peaceful environment where Cooee can thrive as the sole pet, stating, “The perfect home would be a nice and quiet place with people willing to learn about his behavior.”

Cooee's unusual story has gained attention online, with a viral TikTok video showcasing his journey and the humorous mix-up about his breed.

With more than a million views, the video highlights the importance of understanding a pet's background before bringing them home.

As Cooee continues to search for his forever home, the staff remains hopeful that the right family will appreciate the lovable but complex nature of a dingo.
