In a village in Thailand, an unusual discovery was made by 82-year-old Durian Intawiset, reports Tag24.
While checking on a newborn kitten found in Phetchabun province, Durian realized that the kitten had been born with a rare deformity: it had two faces.
Durian found the kitten still attached to its mother’s placenta. Describing the find on social media, she noted that the kitten had two heads, four eyes, and two noses.
Despite its unusual condition, the kitten is thriving. “The kitten is still alive,” Durian shared with the Daily Mail.
The mother cat, named Nang Prae, is missing, so Durian has been caring for the special kitten herself, feeding it goat’s milk to ensure its survival.
Two faces equals good fortune?
Locals have taken a keen interest in the unique animal, with many visiting Durian’s home to see the rare kitten. Some believe the kitten brings good fortune.
The condition of the kitten, known as “Janus cats,” results from a genetic anomaly called craniofacial duplication or diprosopus. This disorder causes duplication of facial features and typically leads to a short lifespan, often less than a day. However, Durian’s kitten has defied these odds so far.
Durian, who sees the kitten as a symbol of luck, has been caring for it for three days, and the village has been abuzz with excitement over the rare find.
