When rescuers first found Lycan, he hardly looked like a typical dog. Malnourished and covered in severe mange, the stray had lost most of his fur, giving him an eerie, werewolf-like appearance.

The Wors Cases Shelter had Seen

The team at Stray Rescue of St. Louis, the organization that took him in, knew they had a long road ahead to help him recover.

Lycan’s condition was one of the worst cases the shelter had ever encountered. His skin was inflamed, and patches of fur clung to his body, making him almost unrecognizable.

Mange, a painful skin disease caused by mites, had ravaged his body, leaving him with open sores and a raw, irritated appearance. Despite his frightening look, the staff saw beyond it and were determined to give him a second chance.

The rescue team immediately began an intensive treatment plan, which included regular medicated baths, antibiotics, and nutritious meals to help him regain his strength. Beyond physical care, the staff gave him something equally important: attention and love. Slowly but surely, Lycan began to show signs of improvement.

In the first few weeks, his transformation was gradual but remarkable. The inflamed skin began to heal, and his once sparse fur started to grow back in soft patches. As his body recovered, so did his spirit. Lycan’s once shy and scared demeanor shifted into one of warmth and playfulness.

His recovery became a beacon of hope, and videos of his journey went viral, capturing the hearts of animal lovers around the world.

Months later, Lycan is nearly unrecognizable from the "werewolf" he once appeared to be. With a full, healthy coat of fur and a wagging tail, he’s now a happy and playful dog.
