The Khao Kheow Open Zoo, located about 100 kilometers south of Bangkok, Thailand, is experiencing a surge in visitor numbers thanks to a new and adorable resident: Moo Deng, a two-month-old hippo calf.

Fans Flock to See Her

This charming youngster, whose name translates to "bouncing pig," has become an internet sensation, with her cute antics capturing the hearts of animal lovers worldwide.

Moo Deng's social media fame, driven by viral posts on platforms like Instagram and X, has significantly boosted the zoo's attendance, reportedly doubling the number of visitors since her birth in July.

The hippo’s endearing behavior has made her a major draw, with fans flocking to see her playful interactions within her enclosure.

Zoo Threatens Penalties

However, this newfound popularity has not been without its challenges.

The zoo has faced issues related to the overwhelming attention Moo Deng has received. Reports and videos circulating online have highlighted concerns about the mistreatment of the young hippo by some visitors.

These troubling instances prompted the zoo's management to take action to protect Moo Deng.

In response to these incidents, the zoo director has personally appealed to visitors to behave appropriately and respect the animals. Additionally, surveillance cameras have been installed around Moo Deng’s enclosure to monitor visitor behavior and ensure her safety.

The zoo has made it clear that any proven mistreatment will result in severe penalties for those responsible.
