In a heartwarming tale of rescue and hope, three young lionesses have embarked on a long journey from the war-torn regions of Ukraine to the serene landscapes of Great Britain.

Through Poland and Germany

Initiated by the UK-based charity The Big Cat Sanctuary, Vanda, Lira, and Amani, just over a year old and likely born under questionable circumstances, are now on their way to a better life.

These three sisters, who are believed to have been exploited for photographic purposes, started their journey from a wildlife rescue center in Kyiv, according to 20Minutes.

While the exact details of their past remain shrouded in mystery, their escape marks a significant milestone away from potential harm.

Their journey began last Wednesday, traversing through Poland and Germany before arriving in Belgium, where they will stay for several months.

Quarantines for Observation

Currently, Lira and Amani are being cared for at Pairi Daiza, a wildlife park in Belgium, while Vanda has found temporary refuge at Planckendael Zoo.

The lionesses will remain in quarantine for observation by the park’s veterinarians and caregivers, ensuring they are healthy and adapting well to their new environment. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet these resilient creatures once they are settled into their temporary habitats.

Their ultimate destination is a newly constructed sanctuary in Kent, England, which aims to provide a safe haven for big cats.

Scheduled to open later this year, this sanctuary will offer a permanent home for Vanda, Lira, and Amani, allowing them to thrive in a peaceful setting away from the chaos of their former lives.
