A shocking video from South Africa’s Kruger National Park has ignited global outrage after a tourist’s reckless driving resulted in a lioness being hit by a jeep.

Hits the Lioness

The incident, captured by safari enthusiast Safraaz Suliman and shared on Instagram, highlights a disturbing disregard for safari etiquette and wildlife safety.

In the footage, three lionesses are seen crossing a road within the park. As one lioness pauses momentarily, a white Toyota Land Cruiser driven by an impatient tourist advances directly toward her. Instead of waiting for the lioness to move, the driver hits the animal from behind.

The startled lioness jumps to the side before continuing on, casting a frightened glance back at the vehicle.

You are Guests

Suliman, who recorded the incident, expressed his outrage on social media, labeling the behavior as "pitiful" and "absolutely shocking."

He criticized the tourist for treating the park as if it were his private space, rather than respecting it as a sanctuary for wildlife. Suliman’s post served as a stern reminder to park visitors: “Remember, you are guests here. The park belongs to the animals, so show respect and patience.”

The park authorities have responded to the incident by tracking down the driver using the vehicle’s license plate. Kruger National Park spokesperson Ike Phaahla confirmed that the driver is being held accountable for his actions.
