The future of Audi's plant in Brussels is looking increasingly uncertain, prompting employees to take drastic measures to voice their concerns.

Seized 200 Keys to Vehicles

Workers at the facility have staged an unusual protest, seizing the keys to approximately 200 vehicles, and demanding that management clarify the plant's future. According to Stern, the workers have vowed that no cars will leave the facility until they receive a satisfactory answer.

Audi has reacted strongly to this protest, warning that it will not tolerate what it sees as extortion.

The company has threatened to file a complaint unless the keys are returned by noon on Monday. Management claims they have surveillance footage that can identify those responsible for the key theft.

Shutdown On the Table

In July, Audi hinted that a shutdown of the Brussels plant could be on the table, citing weak demand for the Q8 e-tron electric SUVs produced there.

This announcement sent shockwaves through the workforce, which currently comprises around 3,000 employees. Their fears were further exacerbated last Tuesday when Volkswagen, Audi's parent company, announced that no new models would be produced at the Brussels site in the coming years.

In response to the growing anxiety, workers have already staged several strikes, preventing production from resuming after the summer break.

A significant protest is planned for September 16, where employees aim to amplify their demands for job security and a clearer vision for the plant’s future.
