Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, introduced an innovative robotaxi model during a high-profile event on Thursday. This new vehicle, characterized by its unique two-door wing-like design, will not feature a steering wheel or pedals.
Priced at Less Than $30,000
According to Digi24, Musk announced that the robotaxi, dubbed the "Cybercab," is set to enter production in 2026 and will be priced at less than $30,000.
Musk detailed the operational costs, stating that it will charge riders 20 cents for every mile (1.6 kilometers) traveled. Additionally, the Cybercab will utilize inductive charging, eliminating the need for traditional power outlets.
The vehicle relies on artificial intelligence and an array of cameras, which Musk claims will allow it to operate without the extra hardware typically required by competitor robotaxi models. However, industry analysts have expressed concerns about the technical and regulatory challenges associated with this approach.
“Autonomous future is here,” Musk declared, highlighting that the event featured 50 fully autonomous vehicles on display, including Model Y cars and the newly introduced Cybercab.
All vehicles showcased were designed to operate without drivers, marking a significant step forward in autonomous technology.
Up to 20 Passengers
The event also featured other notable innovations. Musk unveiled a larger self-driving vehicle named the "Robovan,"
This van is supossed to be capable of transporting up to 20 passengers. Besides cars Musk also unveiled an Robot, and the humanoid robot was named "Optimus" .
This whole event was focused around showcasing Tesla’s commitment to advancing technology in various sectors.
Musk’s vision includes operating a fleet of self-driving Tesla taxis, which passengers can summon using a dedicated app.
Individual Tesla owners will also have the opportunity to earn money by listing their vehicles as robotaxis on the app, potentially transforming personal vehicles into income-generating assets.
