Google Maps now gives users the opportunity to customize the app itself.

The Google Maps navigation app has long offered customization options, and now iPhone users will have the chance to make their maps even more personal by representing their own vehicles directly in the app.

iPhone users can now replace the usual blue arrow with different vehicle icons. Currently, options include a small red car, a yellow SUV, and a green pickup truck.

However, Google is testing an expanded feature that allows users to select a vehicle icon similar to their own car, which will appear as a small, customized icon on the screen.

According to Android Police, a select group of iPhone users now has access to this new feature, which includes several car types—sedan, SUV, four-wheel drive, hatchback, and a model resembling a previous vehicle. These new icons are more detailed and realistic than the previous, simpler versions.

More Car Colors to Choose From

The new feature also lets users select the color of their car icons, with eight color options: white, black, gray, red, blue, yellow, green, and purple. While the classic blue arrow and old car icons remain available, they cannot be customized in color or shape.

Currently, this feature is being tested on the iPhone 16 Pro with a limited number of users.

Android Police speculates that Android users may receive the same customization options once Google updates the app for both operating systems, though no release date has been announced.

This is not the first time Google Maps has been updated with user-requested features; just a few months ago, similar customization updates were introduced.
