Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 500,000 vehicles in China due to a potential defect in the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), Chinese authorities announced.

The recall comes after concerns that the ABS sensor may fail when exposed to heat and high humidity for extended periods, potentially affecting both the ABS brakes and the Electronic Stability Program (ESP).

According to the auto magazine Automobilwoche, the German automaker has submitted a recall plan to the Chinese authorities, with the first vehicles expected to be recalled starting on November 27, 2024.

Affected Models

Among the vehicles affected, nearly 242,000 imported cars—including A-Class, B-Class, CLA, and GLA-Class models produced between August 2011 and April 2019—are part of the recall.

Additionally, around 281,000 locally produced GLA models, built between March 2014 and October 2019, will also be recalled.

Mercedes is expected to provide free repairs for affected vehicles.
