The MG ZS was originally an electric vehicle, but it is now being revamped into a hybrid model as part of its latest facelift.
The decision to replace the electric drivetrain with a combustion engine may be influenced by the European Union's tariffs on electric cars manufactured in China, which have significantly impacted brands like MG.
This news was reported by the car magazine Boosted.
The new model, called the MG ZS Hybrid+, will feature a powertrain similar to the MG3 Hybrid+.
It combines a four-cylinder, 1.5-liter petrol engine producing 102 horsepower with a small electric motor that adds an additional 136 horsepower.
Despite the hybrid setup, the car is not a performance powerhouse, with a 0-100 km/h time of 8.7 seconds. However, it boasts a fuel economy of 20 km/l, though real-world consumption may be higher.
In the UK, the hybrid model has already been announced with a starting price of £21,995, equivalent to 28,950 US dollars.
