Auto giant Stellantis has acknowledged a widespread defect affecting the onboard chargers of several of its electric car models, leading to expensive repairs for many customers.
Now, the manufacturer is offering compensation—at least in some cases.
According to a statement issued to the Dutch consumer program Radar, Stellantis says customers who paid to replace the faulty chargers before April 2021 may apply for reimbursement.
But the group notes that each case will be reviewed individually, and it is still unclear whether the compensation scheme applies outside the Netherlands.
“If the customer has paid for the replacement of the onboard charger at a brand repair shop before April 2021 and believes that he or she is entitled to compensation, the customer can contact customer service at the brand in question,” Stellantis told Radar.
The faulty chargers have affected owners soon after delivery in multiple countries where local voices have also raised red flags.
The problems reportedly affect a wide range of electric Stellantis models, including not only cars under its own brands but also Toyota models built on the same platform.

A Case-by-Case Promise
Stellantis has not yet launched a blanket recall or automatic reimbursement program.
Instead, owners must actively reach out and prove they paid for repairs prior to April 2021 to be considered for compensation.
For now, affected customers outside the Netherlands are left waiting for clarification on whether they, too, will be eligible.
