Kia is celebrating its 80th anniversary in a unique way – by transforming a 28-year-old Kia Pride into an electric vehicle.
Though the car dates back to 1996, the newly electrified version is more powerful and eco-friendly, but it still holds onto its nostalgic charm.
An Electrified Throwback
Kia is currently celebrating 80 years as a car brand, and to mark the occasion, the English importer has created a 28-year-old electric car.
Or, that is to say — the car is virtually brand new. It is just based on a body from 1996.
The original Kia Pride, a compact car that was popular between 1986 and 1995, has been brought back to life with modern upgrades.

According to Boosted, the electric version weighs 20 kilograms more than the original due to the battery pack, but it delivers better performance.
The torque has doubled, and its horsepower is now up by 77%, rising from the modest 61 horsepower of the original to 109 horsepower today.
The car also boasts two battery packs with a total capacity of 20 kWh, which helps with better weight distribution.
However, charging is still slow, as the car can only charge on a single phase, requiring about six hours for a full charge.

Not for Production
Despite the fun upgrades, this electrified Pride won’t be hitting the mass market.
It’s been created as an eye-catcher for car shows, especially in the UK, where it will be showcased to celebrate Kia's history.
Though the car looks familiar, a few things have changed. The Pearl White paint is new, matching the colors of Kia's modern electric vehicles. In a playful nod to its past, the gear lever remains, but it now serves as a switch for the car’s driving modes.
