The future of BMW’s electric SUVs has arrived—early. Patent filings have surfaced online, giving an unexpected preview of what appears to be the production-ready 2026 BMW iX3, nearly a year ahead of its official debut.
First reported by Dutch publication Autoweek, the leaked images reveal a sleek new take on BMW’s all-electric SUV, evolving from the Vision Neue Klasse X concept showcased earlier this year.
But while the concept hinted at the future, the production model delivers a more grounded version with exciting updates.
The production iX3 adopts several standout features, including flush door handles, robust B-pillars, and classic side mirrors—some of which were also spotted on recent spy shots of the upcoming 3 Series. But the iX3 distances itself from its combustion-powered X3 sibling, offering an electrifying design that truly stands apart.
Gone are the conventional chrome kidney grilles.
Instead, the iX3 flaunts vertical 'coffin grille' styling with a fresh twist—LED lighting. At the rear, a curious design detail around the D-pillar reimagines the iconic 'Hoffmeister Kink.' Is it just a badge, or will it feature futuristic illumination? BMW is keeping us guessing. Wide horizontal tail-lights and a three-quarter glass panoramic roof hint at its luxurious ambitions.
Under the hood—or rather, the platform—the iX3 rides on BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture. This cutting-edge setup boasts an 800-volt system and promises a jaw-dropping range of 600 to 800 kilometers. Buyers will also get the choice of two-wheel or all-wheel drive, making it a versatile option for various drivers.
The full reveal of the 2026 BMW iX3 is expected in late 2025. Until then, the patent leak is an intriguing appetizer for what could be BMW’s next big step in electrification.
