Rod Stewart, the legendary 79-year-old rock star, is so fed up with potholes on England’s roads that he’s considering selling his collection of supercars in protest.
Filled Potholes Himself
For years, Stewart has been vocal about the poor condition of roads in his hometown of Harlow, Essex, located about six miles north of central London.
His frustration boiled over two years ago when he donned a safety vest and workout gear to fill potholes himself with the help of some friends, according to Boosted.
“This is what the roads look like around here, and they’ve been like this forever,” Stewart remarked at the time. “So the boys and I had to take matters into our own hands.”
$70 Million to Repair Roads
Harlow offers the rocker a peaceful lifestyle with easy access to the city — a balance he cherishes.
But the pothole-riddled streets have made it nearly impossible for Stewart to enjoy his prized supercars, including his Lamborghini.
“Because of the potholes on our roads, I might have to find new homes for my beloved cars,” Stewart shared. “I truly love them — they mean a lot to me. And it’s thanks to my fans that I’ve been able to own them. But now, selling them might be the only option.”
Stewart’s high-profile complaints, amplified by his fans, appear to have finally gotten through to local officials.
According to The Guardian, the Essex County Council has announced a budget of roughly $70 million to repair the area’s roads.
Despite his frustrations with local infrastructure, Stewart shows no signs of slowing down.
Currently on tour, the rock icon continues to command global stages while keeping an eye on issues close to home, using his star power to pressure politicians into action.
