Tesla announced on Thursday a recall of more than 27,000 Cybertrucks, citing delayed rearview camera images that may hinder driver visibility and increase accident risks.
Already Updated Software
This recall affects the majority of Cybertrucks in the U.S. and is the largest yet for Tesla’s electric truck model. The issue will be resolved through a software update, according to CNBC.
The rearview camera issue, which Tesla identified in early September, can cause a delay in the video feed when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. In some instances, it may take up to eight seconds for the image to appear, leaving the display blank for crucial moments.
Tesla has already updated software in all new Cybertrucks currently in production to prevent this problem, according to Ziare.
Not the First Recall
This recall follows previous recalls in April and June, which addressed issues related to a loose accelerator pedal and windshield wiper malfunctions.
Tesla began deliveries of the Cybertruck in November 2023 after production delays lasting two years due to battery supply constraints and production challenges.
The Cybertruck, a futuristic vehicle inspired by the sci-fi movie Blade Runner, is part of Tesla CEO Elon Musk's effort to rejuvenate the company’s vehicle lineup amidst slowing demand for electric cars.
However, the truck’s recurring issues have raised concerns among investors, given the considerable resources Tesla has devoted to its development.
