The rating system is based on claims made by drivers over the last ten years of a model's lifespan. Warrantywise's list features the most reliable models currently available, all meeting the same reliability standards. The selection applies to cars that are ten years old and have about 75,000 miles (120,000 km) on the odometer.

The data is based on an analysis from the past three years, identifying the most reliable used cars of the past year. The highest possible score is 100.
