Driving over pothole-riddled roads has always been a challenge for car owners. These bumps and cracks not only ruin the driving experience but also lead to expensive repairs.
But what if a car could jump over such obstacles entirely?
That’s exactly what Yangwang, the luxury division of Chinese automaker BYD, has achieved, reports Digi24.
Yangwang’s U9 electric supercar introduces a revolutionary feature. It comes with a state-of-the-art suspension system called DiSus-X.
This system allows the car to literally lift itself off the ground and jump over obstacles.
The technology is showcased in a video released by BYD, where the U9 navigates through a series of challenges without any damage.
In the video, the car approaches a 2.5-meter-wide water-filled hole in the road while traveling at 120 km/h.
Just before reaching the hole, the suspension system launches the car a few centimeters into the air.
It jumps across the obstacle, covering more than six meters. This isn’t the only impressive feat.
The U9 also jumps over spike strips, similar to those used by police, without puncturing its tires. It even clears a patch of chalky dust without getting its wheels dirty.
The DiSus-X suspension system is designed for incredible precision. It offers a maximum adjustable suspension travel of 75 millimeters and a single-axle lifting speed of 500 millimeters per second.
This allows the car to adapt to unexpected obstacles on the road in real-time.
The U9 is powered by four electric motors, one for each wheel. Together, these motors deliver a total of 960 kW, equivalent to 1,287 horsepower.
This level of performance gives the car exceptional grip and speed. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 309 km/h.
Such innovation doesn’t come cheap. The Yangwang U9 is priced at $233,000.
However, for those seeking cutting-edge technology and unparalleled driving capabilities, it could be worth every penny.
