The Toyota Prius, renowned as the first mass-produced hybrid car, has transformed the automotive industry and solidified Toyota's position as a leader in vehicle electrification.

Guinness World Records

Recently, the Prius made headlines once again by entering the Guinness World Records, according to Motofakty.

Currently in its fifth generation, the Prius features an eye-catching coupe-like design and cutting-edge hybrid systems. In the U.S., the Prius is available with a traditional 2.0 Hybrid front-wheel-drive setup, which served as the vehicle for the record-breaking attempt.

Wayne Gerdes, a specialist in long-distance fuel efficiency drives, embarked on this remarkable journey, starting from Los Angeles City Hall and traveling 3,211.7 miles (5,168.7 kilometers) to New York City Hall.

Suffered Challenging Conditions

Throughout the week-long trip, the Prius faced a variety of challenging road and weather conditions, including steep elevations of 7,000 feet and scorching temperatures exceeding 104 degrees Fahrenheit in the Mojave Desert. Strong winds along the Gulf of Mexico also tested the vehicle's capabilities.

Gerdes achieved an impressive average fuel consumption of 93.158 miles per gallon (2.52 liters per 100 kilometers), significantly surpassing the Prius's rated average of 57 mpg (4.1 l/100 km).

This achievement not only set a new record but also improved the previous mark by nearly 20 mpg (over 0.6 l/100 km).
