Unlike many carmakers shifting to electric, Rolls-Royce has pledged to keep its legendary V12 engine running.

Rolls-Royce has promised to keep its iconic V12 engine alive until at least 2030, even as the automotive world shifts towards electric vehicles.

The luxury brand, known for its 6.75-litre V12 engine, will continue to offer this powerful option, bucking the trend set by parent company BMW, which said goodbye to the engine in January 2022.

According to Automotive News, the recent facelift of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV will feature the familiar V12 engine.

The brand plans to keep the Cullinan and its V12 engine in production through the decade, with no immediate plans to phase it out entirely.

Rolls-Royce is preparing for the future.

By 2028, the brand is expected to introduce a smaller SUV alongside an electric successor to the Phantom sedan. While the future of the V12 engine remains uncertain beyond 2030, the brand is keeping its options open.

This commitment to the V12 engine comes at a time when many carmakers are reconsidering their rush to go fully electric.

Volvo, for example, recently reversed its decision to abandon the internal combustion engine by 2030, and Ford has backed away from its goal to sell only electric cars in Europe by the same year.

Even Volkswagen and Mercedes have invested heavily in the development of new combustion engines.

For now, Rolls-Royce enthusiasts can continue to enjoy the powerful roar of the V12 engine, knowing it’s not going anywhere—at least not yet.
