Hollywood star Eddie Murphy, now 63, has returned to his iconic role as Detective Axel Foley in the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
The actor and comedian, who first played the character at age 21 in the 1984 action comedy Beverly Hills Cop, admitted he felt his age during the filming of the new movie.
Feeling the Years
Murphy expressed his preference for less physical activity on set.
"I felt like an old man," he said during an appearance on the Today show. Reflecting on his early days in the role, he noted the stark contrast between then and now.
"Today I would rather not do any stunts at all," he remarked.
During filming, there was a moment when the director, Mark Molloy, asked Murphy to perform a physical scene.
"He asked me to 'get out of that place and run down those steps,'" Murphy recalled.
After completing the scene, the director requested, "Can you come down with more haste? Faster?" To which Murphy simply replied, "No!"
The New Installment
In Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Detective Foley returns to Los Angeles to uncover a conspiracy.
He is joined by his old friends Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton), as well as a new colleague, Bobby Abbott (Joseph Gordon-Levitt).
The fourth installment of the cult series is set to be released on Netflix on July 3.
