Despite a massive cliffhanger, Lucasfilm and Disney+ have decided to cancel The Acolyte after just one season.
The Star Wars series will not return for a second season.
As reported by Deadline, Lucasfilm made the decision to cancel the show.
Although The Acolyte had the biggest premiere of the year on Disney+, it struggled to maintain its viewership. According to Nielsen data, the final episode reportedly garnered the lowest viewership for a Star Wars finale.
However, the show had a dedicated online fan base, which launched a campaign with the hashtag #RenewTheAcolyte shortly after the finale.
The first season of the Star Wars spin-off ended earlier this year with a dramatic finale, leaving several loose ends that will now remain unresolved.

Showrunner Leslye Headland previously told Collider that she had envisioned The Acolyte as a "multi-season show."
She added, "There are a lot of things at the end of this season that I think are narrative threads that are definitely not resolved."
Next up for the live-action Star Wars universe is Skeleton Crew, which is set to be released on Disney+ in December.
