Singer James Blunt has upped the stakes for his upcoming album re-release, promising fans he will legally change his name based on their suggestions if it reaches number one in the charts.
The 50-year-old musician, known for hits like You're Beautiful and Goodbye My Lover, is re-releasing his debut album Back to Bedlam on 11 October to mark its 20th anniversary.
In a video posted on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), Blunt revealed that if the album hits number one, he will change his name by deed poll to the most popular fan suggestion. You can watch the video below.
"I'll let the people decide," Blunt said, before adding: "But if it doesn’t go to number one, I’m not changing my name."
Fans immediately flooded the post with name suggestions, with some of the most popular being “Blunty McBluntface,” “Blames Junt,” and “James Corden” – a cheeky nod to the Gavin & Stacey star.
The name “Blunty McBluntface” has garnered significant traction, despite Blunt previously expressing his reluctance to adopt that particular moniker during an interview on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X.
As the fan suggestions pile in, only time will tell if Blunt's re-release will top the charts and lead to a name change.
Back to Bedlam was one of the best-selling albums in the UK during the 2000s and is still ranked 17th on the list of all-time best-selling UK albums.
