Law recently confirmed that he will play a young Vladimir Putin in Olivier Assayas’ upcoming film The Wizard of the Kremlin.

Based on Giuliano da Empoli’s bestselling novel, the film explores the political turmoil of post-Soviet Russia in the 1990s, according to Digi24.

It follows Vadim Baranov, a television producer who unexpectedly becomes an advisor to Putin as he rises to power.

In an interview with Deadline, Law shared his thoughts on the challenges of portraying such a complex figure.

He likened the role to “climbing Everest,” acknowledging the scale of the task before him.

While the process has already begun, Law admitted that it feels both daunting and thrilling to take on such a significant character.

The film was announced at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and has already drawn attention for its cast and subject matter. Joining Law in the production is Paul Dano, who will play Vadim Baranov.

With Assayas at the helm, the project is expected to resonate strongly with audiences and critics alike.

Da Empoli’s novel, published in 2022, became an instant bestseller. Its depiction of Putin’s early years struck a chord, especially given its release shortly after the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The story blends political drama with personal ambition, providing a fictionalized yet insightful look into one of the most pivotal periods in modern Russian history.
