Coldplay frontman Chris Martin had a startling moment during the band’s final Melbourne show on Sunday, November 3.
'That Was Not Planned'
He accidentally fell through an open trapdoor on stage at Marvel Stadium.
The mishap occurred as Martin was interacting with fans, reading and pointing at their posters during a pause in the performance on the “Music of the Spheres” tour, according to Ziare.
Footage captured by fans shows the singer suddenly stepping back and disappearing into the open hatch.
ortunately, a stage crew member inside managed to catch Martin mid-fall, cushioning his landing.
The crowd gasped, and after regaining his footing, Martin lightheartedly addressed the incident, saying, “That was not planned, thank you for catching me! Thanks, guys, damn!”
Continue Tour in Few Days
The incident adds Martin to a growing list of artists experiencing stage-related mishaps in recent weeks.
Just three weeks ago, American pop star Olivia Rodrigo had a similar accident at the Rod Laver Arena, also in Melbourne, where she fell off the stage during her performance.
After a few days’ break, Coldplay is set to continue their Australian tour with shows at Sydney’s Accor Stadium this week, running from Wednesday through Sunday.
The “Music of the Spheres” tour has been met with great enthusiasm globally, including two shows in Bucharest earlier this year.
In one memorable moment from Bucharest, local artist Babasha joined Martin on stage to perform, receiving mixed reactions from the crowd on the first night but applause on the second.
