An ongoing investigation into a Listeria outbreak has led to a major recall of Boar’s Head ready-to-eat deli meat products.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) identified these products as the main source of contamination, resulting in 30 hospitalizations and two deaths.

Affected Products

Approximately 207,528 pounds of Boar’s Head branded deli meats, sliced and sold at delis nationwide, have been recalled due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

The recalled products include:

  • Strassburger Brand Liverwurst: Sell by dates July 25, 2024, through Aug. 30, 2024

  • Virginia Ham Old Fashioned Ham: Sell by date “AUG 10.”

  • Italian Cappy Style Ham: Sell by date “AUG 10.”

  • Extra Hot Italian Cappy Style Ham: Sell by date “AUG 10.”

  • Bologna: Sell by date “AUG 10.”

  • Beef Salami: Sell by date “AUG 10.”

  • Steakhouse Roasted Bacon Heat & Eat: Sell by date “AUG 15.”

  • Garlic Bologna: Sell by date “AUG 10.”

  • Beef Bologna: Sell by date “AUG 10.”

Consumers who have recently purchased any of the above Boar’s Head meat products should dispose of them immediately to avoid the risk of Listeria infection.

Listeria infection can lead to listeriosis, which is a serious illness particularly dangerous for elderly, pregnant, or immunocompromised individuals.

Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and in severe cases, convulsions and seizures.

If you experience any of these symptoms after consuming potentially contaminated deli meat, contact your doctor.
