We love avocados for their buttery texture and healthy fats, but the unpredictable ripening process can be a headache.

One day it's hard as a rock, and the next, it's brown and unusable.

But with a simple, inexpensive trick, you can double the lifespan of your avocado — and no fancy equipment is needed.

This tip comes from the British media Express.

According to Karl Graham, a food storage expert at Click Storage, you only need a few common ingredients to extend the life of your avocados. He explains, “Only a few materials are needed to extend its life and continue to enjoy this delicious fruit, all while absorbing its healthy benefits.”

So, what should you do?

First, wait until your avocado is ripe. You can check by seeing if the stem can be easily removed and the exposed pulp is green.

Once your avocado is ready, move on to the next step: citrus juice.

Applying a light coating of lime or lemon juice to the pulp when the avocado is cut in half works wonders. The acid in the juice slows down the enzymes that cause browning, keeping the avocado fresher for longer.

Next, store the avocado halves in an airtight container. If you're only using one half, leave the stone in the other half for added protection.

Finally, place the container in the refrigerator. Cold temperatures slow the ripening process, effectively doubling the life of your avocado.

So, the next time you buy an avocado, remember this simple trick!
