Kevin Costner, the star of "Yellowstone," and his wife of almost 19 years, Christine Baumgartner, are getting a divorce. The news came as a shock to Costner, who is currently immersed in his upcoming directorial project "Horizon," a western film.
Sources close to the couple have revealed that Baumgartner, who filed for divorce, had allegedly warned Costner that she would leave him if he continued to be absent from home due to work commitments. Costner's absence was reportedly difficult for Baumgartner, who wanted him to spend more time with his family in Santa Barbara. "During filming, Kevin is not around very much. His absence has been very hard for her," a source was quoted as saying.
While Costner was aware of his wife's dissatisfaction with their marriage, her decision to file for divorce was still a shock. "Christine doesn't want him to throw himself into another project. He has been obsessed with filming 'Horizon' since last year. She wasn't happy about it," a source reported. Another insider added that Costner's career had sometimes taken precedence over his home life, causing tension at home.
The couple began dating in 2000 and married four years later, sharing three children, all minors. This is not Costner's first marriage; he was previously married to his college sweetheart Cindy Silva. That marriage ended in a nasty divorce, leaving Costner feeling lonely for a long time.
Costner's relationship with Baumgartner initially faced challenges as well, as he was reluctant to have more children. However, Baumgartner told him, "I'm going to wait for you, but not long. When you come to your senses, come back to me," and he did.
Now that this marriage has also ended, a representative of the actor stated, "It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action. We ask that his, Christine's, and their children's privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time."
Reports indicate that Baumgartner has not filed for spousal support, and Costner's response has been filed by Laura Wasser. Wasser's statement indicates that there is a pre-nuptial agreement between both parties.
