The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall on eggs due to an active Salmonella outbreak.
The recalled eggs were sold by Milo’s Poultry Farms and Tony’s Fresh Market between May 23, 2024, and August 10, 2024, and include cage-free, organic, and non-GMO eggs.
So far, 63 people have fallen ill, with 24 hospitalizations reported.
The affected products were distributed to retailers and restaurants in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan, though the recall may extend to other areas.
Illnesses have occurred not only in the three listed states but also in California, Colorado, Iowa, Utah, and Virginia.
If you purchased eggs from Milo’s Poultry Farms or Tony’s Fresh Market within the recall period, immediately dispose of them or return them to the store.
Salmonella infection, or salmonellosis, can cause symptoms such as stomach cramps, fever, and diarrhea, which may appear 12 to 72 hours after exposure and can last up to 7 days. Severe cases may also involve headaches, fatigue, or blood in the stool.
If you suspect you have symptoms after consuming the recalled eggs, contact your healthcare provider right away.
