It's Not Always Safe to Pop Your Pimples. Some Areas Require Caution

Trending Now

You’ve likely heard the advice before: don’t pop your pimples to avoid scarring and delayed healing.

However, there’s an even more critical reason to keep your hands off those pesky blemishes, especially if they are located in a specific area of your face.

Can Potentially Be Fatal

Several dermatologists, including Dr. Vishal Madan from Salford near Manchester, have recently highlighted a serious risk associated with popping pimples. According to BBC Radio, this risk is particularly significant in what’s known as the "danger triangle" of the face.

This dangerous area forms a triangle with its tip at the bridge of the nose, extending to the area between the eyebrows and ending at the upper lip. Although it is extremely rare, infections that start in this region can potentially be fatal.

Dr. Madan warns that if a pimple in this area becomes infected, the bacteria can travel through the blood vessels directly connected to the brain. This can lead to severe complications, including vision loss, permanent paralysis, or even death.

Risk of Infection

Dr. Madan, speaking on BBC’s "5 Live Breakfast," emphasizes that while the theoretical risk exists, it is very uncommon.

“There is a theoretical chance, but it is extremely rare,” he stated. He explains that while it is natural for people to want to squeeze their pimples, the primary danger lies in the risk of infection and the potential for severe outcomes.

For those who struggle to resist the urge to pop their pimples, it’s crucial to be aware of these risks. Avoid touching or squeezing pimples, especially in the danger triangle, to prevent serious health issues and avoid unnecessary complications.
