It is of course important to be aware of even the smallest symptoms of a heart attack, so you can react in time.

The NHS has shared several signs that could be early symptoms of a heart attack - and one of them is something people might not be aware of.

According to the British Heart Foundation, someone has a heart attack every five minutes in Britain alone.

This shows that it is something to take seriously. Fundamentally, it is something that can affect anyone.

There are about 100,000 hospital admissions due to heart attacks each year, as well as more than 30,000 cardiac arrests outside hospitals in Britain annually, where the survival rate is less than one in 10.

This has prompted the NHS to raise the alarm and urge people to be aware of heart attack symptoms.

They did this with a post on social X with the headline:

"Don't ignore the early signs of a heart attack."

In this post, the NHS adds that a tightening sensation in the chest can be an early warning sign.

The same applies to a lesser-known symptom: a feeling of unease. The guidance in an accompanying video explains further.

"The early symptoms of a heart attack don't always feel severe," says the NHS on X. "But it's never too early to call 999 (911, ed.) and describe your symptoms."

According to the NHS website, symptoms of a heart attack can include: chest pain, which can feel like pressure, heaviness, tightness or a squeezing sensation.

It can also manifest as pain in other parts of the body - normally in the left arm, but it can also affect both arms as well as jaw, neck, back and stomach - a feeling of being dizzy or lightheaded.

If you start sweating, have shortness of breath, nausea or vomiting, and/or an overwhelming feeling of anxiety, and/or coughing or wheezing, these could also be signs of a heart attack.
