Trader Joe’s has issued a voluntary recall of more than 61,000 bottles of Gerolsteiner Sparkling Natural Mineral Water following concerns that the bottles may be cracked or damaged.
According to the announcement, the recall applies to 750-milliliter bottles bearing lot codes “11/28/2024 L” or “11/27/2024 L” with best-by dates of December 18 or 19, 2027.
The product was sold between December 27, 2024, and January 28, 2025, at Trader Joe’s stores in 12 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Trader Joe’s confirmed that no injuries have been reported, but consumers are urged to return the bottles out of caution.
Why the Bottles Are Being Recalled
The affected sparkling water bottles may have manufacturing defects that make them susceptible to cracking or breaking during handling.
While the risk of injury is considered low, the sharp edges of damaged glass can potentially cause cuts or lacerations.
Even if the bottle looks intact, officials advise customers not to consume the product if it matches the recalled lot numbers and dates.
How to Get a Refund
Trader Joe’s is offering refunds for the recalled product—no proof of purchase is required. Customers simply need to return the affected bottle to any Trader Joe’s location. Refunds will be issued as cash or store credit, depending on preference.
The CPSC emphasized that “consumers will not be asked for proof of purchase, but must return the recalled bottle to receive a refund.”
If you believe you’ve been injured after handling or consuming the recalled sparkling water, seek medical attention and report the incident to your healthcare provider.
Trader Joe’s and health authorities continue to monitor the situation, though no health-related incidents have been confirmed to date.
