Coca-Cola has just issued a recall on thousands of its classic soda cans due to a contamination risk, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed in a recent report.
The issue? Some cans may contain pieces of plastic—and over 10,000 cans are impacted.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall affects 12-packs of Coca-Cola Original Taste in 12-fluid-ounce cans. Specific identifiers to look out for:
Can UPC: 0 49000-00634 6
Package UPC: 0 49000-02890 4
Expiration Date: September 29, 2025
States Sold: Illinois and Wisconsin
Total Impacted: 864 cases (over 10,000 cans)
If you’ve recently purchased Coca-Cola in this region, it’s worth double-checking your supply right away.
Why the Recall?
According to the FDA, the recall was triggered after the discovery of foreign matter contamination—in this case, pieces of plastic inside the soda cans.
While no serious injuries have been reported, the recall has now been classified as a Class II recall, meaning the product “may cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences.”
In simpler terms, it's not likely to be life-threatening, but it’s definitely not something you want to drink.
What Should You Do?
If you have Coca-Cola Original Taste cans matching the UPC and expiration date listed above, do not drink them.
Here’s what to do instead:
Dispose of the product safely, or
Return it to the place of purchase for a possible refund
If you experience any symptoms of illness or injury after drinking the product—such as mouth irritation, stomach pain, or choking—seek medical attention immediately.
