More than 1 million Igloo coolers have been recalled across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico after multiple reports of serious injuries, including fingertip amputations.

The recall was issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

According to CPSC, this recall affects the Igloo 90-Quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers, which were sold at major retailers like Costco, Target, Academy, and Dick’s Sporting Goods, as well as online.

The recalled coolers have a tow handle. “IGLOO” is printed on the side of the coolers. The coolers were sold in multiple body and lid color combinations, some of which are pictured above. The model number is located on labels affixed to the bottom of the cooler.

The affected coolers were manufactured between August 2018 and December 2023 and sold from January 2019 through January 2025.

At least 12 consumers have suffered injuries from the tow handles, which can pinch fingers against the cooler, causing severe damage. Reported injuries include fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and deep lacerations.

The coolers come in various color combinations, but if you own an Igloo 90-Quart Flip & Tow Rolling Cooler, you should stop using it immediately.

What Should Consumers Do?

Igloo is offering a free repair kit to fix the issue. Visit Igloo’s official recall page for more information.

Consumers should check their cooler’s manufacture date (printed on the bottom) to see if it falls within the recall period.
