SMEG USA has issued a recall for certain retro-style refrigerators.

Trending Now

SMEG USA is recalling a line of its retro-style refrigerators after receiving reports of the doors detaching and falling off.

According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), this recall affects models with freezer compartments and model numbers starting with FAB38U.

The refrigerators measure approximately 28 inches wide, 30 inches deep, and 80 inches high.

They were sold in various colors, including black, cream, pastel blue, pastel green, red, and white.

They were available with either left-opening or right-opening doors and feature "SMEG" branding on the front.

The recall affects refrigerators sold between September 2020 and January 2024 through independent kitchen and appliance stores nationwide, as well as online retailers such as Williams-Sonoma, AJ Madison, and Wayfair.

These units were priced around $4,300.

Safety Concerns

The recall was prompted by nine reports of refrigerator doors detaching and falling, though no injuries have been reported so far.

Given the potential risk of injury, SMEG USA is urging consumers to stop using the affected refrigerators immediately.

Consumers who own the recalled refrigerators should contact SMEG USA to arrange for a free repair by a certified service provider.

To begin the process, consumers are asked to email a photo of the refrigerator's model and serial numbers to recall@smegusa.com.

The model and serial numbers can be found on a white label inside the top door of the refrigerator.
