In the United Kingdom, Lidl has introduced a brand-new concept.
Customers at the popular supermarket chain now have the opportunity to purchase a special "mystery box" at a low price, with contents that are worth significantly more.
If you've always been fascinated by the tempting selection of random items in the Lidl center, the chance to snag a mystery box could be perfect for you.
The discounter is joining a growing trend, also embraced by brands like Nike and Candy Kittens, by offering mystery boxes at a fixed price, with contents valued higher than the purchase price.
"The secret is out—Lidl is launching its very first series of 'Mystery Boxes,' each chock-full of quirky and wonderful items from the 'Lidl-Mitte,' ranging from coffee machines to ukuleles, swimming goggles to crochet sets, and even massage guns!" the company announced in a statement.
Bargain hunters will have to act quickly as only a limited number of these boxes are available.
The Lidl Mystery Box is a package of selected items from the discounter's famous center aisle, where you can often find everything from sandwich toasters to swimming goggles.
What's in the Mystery Box?
The items in the £20 box have a total value of more than £100 ($125), but the exact contents of each individual box are not guaranteed.
A Lidl spokesperson said:
"In keeping with the spirit of 'Lidl-Mitte,' each box offers different surprises; fans might find a Silvercrest Slushie Maker in one box, while in another, customers might discover their inner Arnold Schwarzenegger with Parkside wrenches or learn a few chords with a Clifton Ukulele."
For 50 lucky Mystery Box buyers, there will also be a bonus voucher hidden in their box, granting them an additional item worth up to £200 ($250).
Voucher holders could receive anything from a Grillmeister 2-burner gas grill or a Tower Air Fryer 5-in-1 Smokeless Grill to a Livarno garden furniture set or an inflatable All-Round Stand-Up Paddleboard.
