Should You Wash New Towels Before Using Them?

Trending Now

There's nothing quite like a new towel. It's soft, fluffy, and when you first bring it home, you can't wait to use it after a relaxing shower. However, you might want to pump the brakes before wrapping yourself in that newly purchased towel.

New bath towels may contain more bacteria than you realize, and after getting fresh and clean, the last thing you want is for your new towel to make you dirty again!

This is according to Pensionist.

Countless Fingers

A stack of towels in a store might look neat and clean, but think about how many people might have touched them before you brought them home.

Store employees who set them out, other customers who might have been interested, children with sticky fingers... you get the idea.

Plus, if they've been out for a while, it's hard to say what kind of bacteria might have landed on them - especially in these times when there are so many respiratory diseases circulating.

Even When Shopping Online

Even if you order new towels online, it's best to wash them before using them. They can harbor everything from dust and other particles to bacteria that could be harmful to your health.

Again, people have to handle those towels, whether it's in a factory or a packing and distribution center. You don't want their bacteria on your body!

For Any Towel

Whether it's a bath towel, hand towel, or washcloth, take a few extra minutes and throw them in the washing machine before you use them for the first time.

By doing so, you keep yourself safe and clean, and you get the added bonus of a warm, soft towel fresh out of the dryer.
