Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was assaulted yesterday (June 7) while walking near her residence in Copenhagen.
The assault took the form of a violent, unexpected push, resulting in whiplash for the Prime Minister. A 39-year-old man was subsequently arrested.
At 1:00 PM local time in Copenhagen, the 39-year-old was presented for a preliminary court hearing, and the identity of the assailant has now been disclosed.
The assailant is a 39-year-old Polish man who was both drunk and under the influence of substances at the time of the incident.
He was, however, fully aware of whom he was pushing.
The man, who neither understands nor speaks Danish, admitted to pushing the Prime Minister with a clenched fist on her shoulder.
The court hearing concluded with the man being remanded in custody for 12 days.
The man did not disclose the motive behind the assault, nor did he oppose the judge's decision to remand him in custody for 12 days.
