A tragic event has unfolded in Nepal, as landslides have swept two buses carrying at least 65 passengers into the Trishuli River.

The incident occurred early Friday morning in Chitwan district, approximately 86 kilometers (53 miles) west of Kathmandu.

Police spokesman Dan Bahadur Karki confirmed the incident and provided details about the buses involved.

"There were 41 people on the bus traveling from Kathmandu to Gaur, and 24 people on the bus traveling from Birgunj to Kathmandu. Both the buses and the passengers are missing in the Trishuli River," Karki told Reuters.

Elsewhere in Nepal, landslides in the Kaski district, located 150 kilometers (93 miles) west of the capital, have killed at least 10 people after three houses were washed away.

Since mid-June, torrential monsoon rains have caused landslides and flooding across the Himalayan nation.

These natural disasters have resulted in the deaths of at least 91 people.

Government Response

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed his sadness over the disasters in a social media post on Friday. He instructed government agencies to carry out effective search and rescue operations.

Authorities have mobilized military and police forces to search for the missing passengers in the Trishuli River.
