In a detailed update on the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has reported notable advancements by Russian forces, particularly to the west of Avdiivka, amid a series of ongoing positional battles across various fronts.
These developments have escalated tensions in a region already deeply scarred by prolonged conflict.
A Tactical Shift in Avdiivka
According to the latest insights, Russian troops have made discernible progress in the vicinity of Avdiivka, a strategic location that has been a focal point of military actions for an extended period.
This advancement is part of a broader pattern of engagement that includes persistent positional battles in critical areas such as the Kreminnaya region, northwest of Bakhmut, and along the administrative borders of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as near Krynyk in the Kherson region.
The Continuation of Positional Warfare
Positional battles have been particularly intense west of Kreminnaya near Terni and south of Kreminnaya near Bilogorivka. Similarly, northwest of Bakhmut in the Bohdanivka district, to the west in the Ivanovsky district, and to the southwest in the Klishchiivka and Andriivka districts, fighting has continued without respite.
Geolocation footage from April 7 has confirmed Russian advancements to the northwest of Pervomaiskyi, southwest of Avdiivka, illustrating the ongoing and fluid nature of the frontline.
Claims from a Kremlin-linked Russian military commander suggest Russian forces have seized control of at least 80% of Pervomaiskyi, aligning with ISW’s assessments of the situation on the ground.
Broadening the Battlefront
The scope of the conflict has expanded, with positional battles reported northwest of Avdiivka in Novokalynovogo, Novobakhmutivka, and Berdychiv; to the west of Avdiivka near Tonenke and Semenivka; and to the southwest near Pervomaisky, Nevelsky, and Vodyanyi.
The conflict has intensified west of Donetsk in the areas of Krasnohorivka and Georgiivka, and southwest of Donetsk in Pobyeda and Novomykhailivka.
In a single day, on April 7, Ukraine faced 76 combat clashes, 7 missile and 104 air strikes, and 108 rocket attacks.
