Belarus has deployed military forces, including Wagner mercenaries, near Ukraine’s border.

Belarus has mobilized its armed forces, along with Wagner mercenaries, near the Ukrainian border, sparking concerns in Kyiv.

Ukrainian intelligence reports that a large number of Belarusian troops, including Special Operations Forces, tanks, artillery, and air defense systems, have been positioned in the Gomel region, close to Ukraine's northern border.

According to a statement from Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as cited by United24 Media, this movement is being conducted under the guise of military exercises.

The Ministry also confirmed the presence of Wagner Group mercenaries, the notorious private military company previously linked to various operations across Ukraine and other conflict zones.

Ukraine's Response

Ukraine has expressed serious concerns over these developments, particularly given the proximity to the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

The Ministry warned that these actions pose a threat not only to Ukraine’s national security but also to global stability.

In a cautionary statement, Ukraine urged Belarus not to succumb to Moscow’s influence and to avoid making "tragic mistakes" that could endanger their country. The statement called on Belarus to withdraw its forces from the border to a safe distance, emphasizing that Ukraine harbors no hostile intentions toward the Belarusian people.

However, Ukraine made it clear that any violation of its state border by Belarus would trigger a decisive response.

The Ministry stated that Ukraine would exercise its right to self-defense, as guaranteed by the UN Charter, and that any Belarusian troop concentrations, military facilities, and supply routes would be considered legitimate targets for Ukrainian forces.
