US President Joe Biden spoke to the nation following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.

Biden stressed the need to reduce political tensions in the country.

He reminded Americans that, despite political disagreements, they are neighbors, friends, colleagues, and, most importantly, compatriots.

"We must stand together," he said, adding that politics should never turn into a battlefield.

Biden pointed out that while differences in political views are normal in a democracy, they should always be resolved through voting, not violence.

"In America, we resolve our differences at the ballot box ... not with bullets. The power to change America must always be in the hands of the people, not in the hands of a would-be murderer," Biden said, as reported by The Statesman.

Biden wished Trump a quick recovery and honored Corey, a 50-year-old firefighter who was killed during the rally, calling him a hero.

He also mentioned that the investigation into the attack is ongoing and that the shooter's motives are still unclear.

The Incident

The assassination attempt took place at Trump's election rally on Saturday, where Trump received a slight ear injury.

One person in the stands was killed, and two others were injured.

Special services stopped the attacker, identified as 20-year-old Matthew Crooks.

The FBI is treating the incident as a murder.
