US President Joe Biden has expressed his acceptance of the federal court's verdict against his son, Hunter Biden, who was found guilty on all three counts of illegal possession of weapons.
In a statement quoted by CNN, President Biden acknowledged the challenging situation.
"I'm the president, but I'm also a father," Biden said, emphasizing that he and First Lady Jill Biden "love our son and are very proud of what he has become today."
"As I said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the legal process while Hunter considers the possibility of an appeal," the President added.
Hunter Biden's legal team has already indicated their intention to appeal the verdict.
Details of the Conviction
Hunter Biden was found guilty on all three counts in a federal trial concerning an October 2018 incident. He was charged with making a false statement while purchasing a Colt Cobra 38SPL revolver, falsely claiming he was not using drugs.
Following the jury's decision, a judge in Delaware will pronounce the sentence.
Hunter Biden faces a maximum of 25 years in prison and a $750,000 fine for these charges.
In a separate case, Hunter Biden is also facing multiple charges related to tax evasion. He is charged with three felony counts and six misdemeanor counts for failing to pay taxes and filing false tax returns.
If convicted, he could face up to 17 years in prison.
