BMW has announced a recall of 291,112 vehicles in the United States due to a potential safety risk involving the cargo hold fasteners.

Fasteners Will Fail

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue pertains to the possibility that the cargo securing elements in the trunk could detach during a rear-end collision, increasing the risk of injury to passengers.

The recall affects several models of the BMW X3, including the X3 sDrive30i, X3 xDrive30i, X3 M40i, and X3 M, manufactured between 2018 and 2023, according to Ziare.

The problem involves the bolts that attach the cargo securing rails to the rear of the vehicles. In the event of an accident, if these fasteners fail, they could pose a significant safety hazard.

Replace for Free

Dealers will replace the affected bolts free of charge, ensuring that the cargo rails are properly secured. The NHTSA issued the recall on July 25, 2024, urging owners of the affected vehicles to schedule a service appointment with their local BMW dealer.

BMW's proactive measure aims to address this safety concern and mitigate the risk of injury. Owners of the affected X3 models are advised to check for recall notifications and contact their dealers for a prompt resolution.
